Who knew that it takes practice to win a hot dog eating contest?
CBS4's
Gio Benitez learned that lesson at Friday's contest hosted by the All American Hot Dog Carts in Little Haiti.
Benitez took part with 20 other contestants all vying for a $250 cash prize. The challenge was to chow down on as many hot dogs in ten minutes
The winner Damon Serignet, of West Palm Beach ate five.
"I practiced everyday for about three days straight," Serignet said. "Break the hot dog. Break it in half. Bite into it so you get small bites. Bite into it fine so you can swallow chunks at a time."
Benitez barely finished one of the 13-inch long hot dogs. The event is held annually at the hot dog cart showroom and organizers said it was "a great kick-off to the Fourth of July."
