Possible Tornado Touch-Down In Hallandale Beach

Hallandale Beach (CBS4) ― As she hacks away at the tree that snapped in front of her home, Vera Levy and her neighbors are convinced only one thing could cause that type of damage.

"I think it was a tornado," Michelle Mitchell says, "It was really bad."

Dangerous weather struck just before 6 Monday evening. The wind was strong enough to blow the arms off the railroad crossing at Hallandale Beach Boulevard west of I-95.

"I saw a funnel cloud come across the lake. The house was shaking. We thought it was going down," described Mark D'Amore. His house was rather undamaged, but his garbage can wasn't as lucky. "Our garbage can blew down the block."

That can barreled down the road and slammed into a neighbor's truck. Jami Burritt is having his own string of bad luck. "My transformer blew. Now I find out my truck is damaged. Bummer… oh well, welcome to Florida!"
