Weathering Storms At Florida's Hurricane Conf.

"Weathering the Storms Together: Prepare, Restore, Recover"

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― The 22nd Annual Governor's Hurricane Conference continued in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday, in which Florida Power & Light, the public utility company, demonstrated its efforts to restore service following a hurricane or tropical weather event.

Hurricane experts and emergency management personnel are concerned Florida residents may have let their guard down after two relatively weak hurricane seasons.

Earlier in the week, Florida emergency management chief Craig Fugate echoed Gov. Crist's message saying it wasn't a question of if, but when another storm will hit. Fugate said people are often labeled as victims, when instead they should be called survivors. He also said residents should be prepared to survive alone for a couple of days after a storm is critical.

Hurricane season begins on June 1 and runs through November.
