Sparano: Taylor Will Not Attend Training Camp

Coach Sparano Made The Announcement

MIAMI (CBS4) ― A surprising announcement at Dolphins' camp concerning Jason Taylor's future with the team.

During a post practice press conference on Wednesday head coach Tony Sparano announced that Jason Taylor would not be attending any of the organized team activities, mini camps or training camp in July.

"I'm glad we know this. We've gotten the information, and  that's important," Sparano said, adding he knows Taylor "is not going to be in any mini-camps, and I know that right now Jason is not going to be at training camp.

Tuesday evening America watched as the Fins' defensive end came in second to former Olympic skater Kristi Yamaguchi on TV's "Dancing WithThe Stars."

Jason Taylor said "I never, ever thought I would get to this point."

While in the Los Angeles area taping the show, Taylor, an aspiring actor, had reportedly taken meetings with several Hollywood heavyweights.

Various reports surfaced around the time of the 2008 NFL Draft that the team was trying to find a trade partner for Taylor. The Dolphins were allegedly looking for a mid to low first round draft pick which would have been a steep price for the 34-year old defensive end.

Before the draft, Fin's operations chief Bill Parcells had said that Taylor would not be traded.

Taylor had his best season in 2006 when he had 62 tackles, 13.5 sacks, two interceptions, 10 forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He has not missed a start the past eight seasons.
