Teen Charged As An Adult In Commissioner's Death

Hearing Will Determine If He Will Be Tried As An Adult

MIAMI (CBS4) ― A teenager accused killing his father, South Miami city commissioner Jay Beckman, has been charged with first degree murder and will stand trial as an adult.

Jason Beckman, 17, said his father's death on Easter Sunday was an accident. He reportedly told police he went to show his father a shotgun that he had assembled when he tripped and the gun went off. Beckman was originally charged with manslaughter; the new charge was filed on April 29th.

Beckman is currently being held at the Miami-Dade Juvenile Detention Center
