New Info: Commissioner's Son Had Spoken Of Murder

Jason Beckman Claims The Death Of His Father Was An Accident

New information released in the death of South Miami Commissioner Jay Beckman casts doubt on his son's story that he shot his father by accident.

Investigative records released Monday indicate 17-year-old Jason Beckman told a friend that he was going to kill his father and make it look like an accident two weeks before the commissioner was shot, according to CBS4 news partners The Miami Herald.

Lisa Kathie Syren, 17, allegedly told investigators that Jason said his father had taken away his ability to feel and he hated him for that. She also revealed that Beckman knew how to handle a loaded shotgun, a gun which had showed her on occasion.

Beckman claims the shotgun went off accidentally as he was showing his father how he had assembled it. Originally he was charged with manslaughter.  The charged was upgraded to first degree murder after investigators talked with Beckman's teachers and friends.

Jay Beckman, 52, was found shot to death in a shower inside the South Miami home he shared with his son. He had been a commissioner since 2006.
