Brothers Will Be Allowed To Stay In The U.S.

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Jesus and Guillermo Reyes were scheduled to be deported back to their home country of Venezuela, but on Friday the brothers were informed they would get to stay in the U.S. after Congressional members intervened.

"The officer walked into the room and said 'Guillermo, you're out," Reyes said. "What do you mean I'm out?" You're out."

The Reyes brothers were in the country illegally with their family and had an asylum request denied. The Florida Immigration Advocacy Center stepped in and the Reyes' friends took to the streets. Eventually, a letter signed by all of South Florida's politicians led to their release on Friday afternoon.

The brothers are thankful they get to stay in the country and hope that others in a similar status will be given the same chance.

"People that we saw in the detention center that they have dreams. They have goals. They have good grades. They want to contribute to this society. Why can't we welcome them," Jesus Reyes said.
