Boca Man Accuses DreamWorks Of Stealing His Ideas

Josepth Davis Came Up With "Animal's Night Out" In 1999

BOCA RATON (CBS4) ― A Boca Raton man is suing the makers of the 2005 animated movie "Madagascar" claiming they stole his idea.

Joseph Davis said he submitted his ideas and sketches for a movie "Animal's Night Out" to DreamWorks in 1999; six years later they came out with "Madagascar."

The movie, which features the voice talents of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith, is about a group of animals that break out of New York's Central Park Zoo only to find out that life outside the cage isn't all its cracked up to be.

Davis says both story and the DreamWorks movie have similar animals and New York locales.  He registered a copyright for his work in February.

A sequel to "Madagascar" – "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" - is set for release this November.
