Teacher Sentenced For Having Sex With Student

MIAMI (CBS4) ― A former Miami-Dade high school teacher is in trouble with the law for his extracurricular activities with a 16-year old female student.

According to Miami-Dade Police, Julio Polo, 36, a former teacher of John Ferguson Senior High School, 15900 SW 56th Street, had consensual sexual activity with a 16-year old student.

On Tuesday Polo was sentenced for seven years in prison. A jury found him gulty of two counts of lewd battery and one count of having sex with a child.

Police allege the two engaged in sexual activity on school property and at a Miami area hotel while he was a teacher at the school.

Their relationship allegedly took place between February 2006 and August 2006.

Polo resigned from the Dade County Public Schools in June of 2006.

Circuit Judge Larry Schwartz also sentenced Polo to serve five years probation after he's released from prison.
