Bird Sanctuary Killing Have Preschoolers Mourning

Pre-Schoolers Question Destruction Of Bird Nesting Ground

Weston (CBS4) ―

A private pre-school in Weston reported on Tuesday of what remains of a bird couple and its nest of eggs: tire tracks from a vehicle which rolled over them and destroyed what students were watching, hoping would be a family joining their community.

Melissa Haggit, an administrator at Crossroads Christian Academy told CBS4 that its pre-schoolers, aged from two to five, were observing Killdeer birds who often can nest on the ground as they did in the school's backyard.

She said, "We couldn't wait for them to hatch.  We've found out that they hatch not as ugly little bald birds, but cute and fluffy baby chicks."   The young students would always ask when will the eggs hatch.

They won't.

The persons who ran over the nest, destroying what would have been a welcome addition to the schools population, saddened and left more questions for young minds to ponder.
