Scores Of Dead Fish Plague A Plantation Condo Lake
100s Of Dead Fish In Plantation Condo Lake
FWC Blames Hot Weather
PLANTATION (CBS4) ―
Residents of a Plantation condominium are trying to deal with a stinky situation outside of their homes. Hundreds of dead fish floating in a community lake have residents wondering what's wrong with the water.
There are hundreds of dead fish floating in the lake at Jacaranda Condominiums, near I-95, in Plantation.
Homeowners in this Broward community located along Clearly Boulevard say the smell is simply horrible, nasty and repulsive and they're concerned about their safety.
"It smells so bad, it stinks really bad," said one resident.
So what has caused all these fish to die? According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the sizzling summer heat is to blame. They say the fish have a lack of oxygen in the water, which caused them to die.
Some residents don't agree with the 'natural causes' explanation because there aren't any other dead fish in other nearby lakes and canals.
"It's not very healthy for kids or pets in the area. If they get into any of the dead fish, it's not healthy at all," said one neighbor.
Many of the residents say they plan to contact the Department of Environmental Protection in order to get them to test the waters.
