"Legally Blonde: The Musical" Hits S. Fla. Stage
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ―
She's a "Valley Girl" who thinks pink all the time; at least, until she takes off the rose-colored glasses and realizes its time to get serious and hit the books. From UCLA to Harvard, Elle Woods proves she's much more than her hair and wardrobe make her out to be; she learns she can do anything.
Becky Gelsvig brings Elle to life in the touring production of "Legally Blonde: The Musical," now on stage at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
"First of all, it's the best part to play dress up in," Becky told
CBS4's Lisa Petrillo. "You get to wear great costumes and have fabulous hair. And she really grows; she goes on a big journey. You get to go out on that ride every night."
"The costumes are all hand-made," Becky explained. "The opening dress is hand-painted; the finale dress is hand-beaded. I have a fab majorette outfit which is all beads. It's ridiculous and fabulous."
"Legally Blonde" is guilt-free fun and hard work for Becky, who only leaves the stage for costume changes. But she says being a positive role model to her younger audience members is what she enjoys most of all.
"Learning that, really, if you believe in yourself and you don't give up, you'll be fine; so nice to get that message every night and it's so nice to see a positive role model."
Legally Blonde is on now through November 22 at The Broward Center for The Performing Arts.
