Liberty City Holds "Warriors For Change" Rally

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Outraged by last weekend's shooting which left two teens dead and seven other people injured, residents of Liberty City staged a "Warriors for Change" rally Tuesday night in an effort to stop the violence.

"When it happened you know I couldn't describe my feelings because I didn't believe it." Tuesday night, Derrick Gloster's father stood where his son died for the first time. "I know we are going to catch this trigger man. And I plea with the public if you know something please come forward cause we cannot rest until we get answers."

He's holding strong considering nobody seems to know who killed his son. That's rather shocking, considering more than 50 people saw the murder.

While police search for answers, community leaders are doing the same. "We hitting all the blocks tonight," Reverend Jerome Starling said. With Gloster's parents at his side, Starling hit the neighborhood with flyers.

"You remain anonymous ok?" he reassured one person he stopped to speak with, adding, "It's a $12,000 reward."

"I wouldn't want the community to be a coward. I want the community to do the right thing because they never know when it's going to be their kid. It's going to be their kid next," Starling explained.

After walking for blocks, talking to anybody who would listen, the Reverend's following had grown. On the very same corner where the massacre unfolded Friday, a crowd of more than 150 gathered. The police shut the street down; the city put up a stage and residents lit the night with candles. They gathered, praying that a killer will be brought to justice.

The suspect opened fire with an assault rifle on a crowd of people in front of a store on the corner of NW 71st Street and 15th Avenue. Witnesses told police the gunman wore a bandana over his face and sprayed the crowd of 50 or so people. Brandon Mills, 16, and 18-year-old Derrick Gloster died in the hail of gunfire; 7 others were injured.

Miami police said so far they do not have enough information to put out a description of the shooter.

"We know for a fact that there were people out there who saw what happened Friday night and we need for those good people to come forward," said Timoney. "I can understand some people are afraid for retaliation purposes, but we guarantee you anonymity."

Anyone with information on Friday night's shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
