Jury To Receive Liberty City Seven Case
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Jurors are expected to begin deliberations on Friday in the case of the so-called "Liberty City Seven." The men are accused of plotting to attack the Sears Tower in Chicago and five FBI offices.
Prosecutors called the group, would-be guerillas during the initial round of closing arguments on Thursday. Defense attorneys countered the U.S. case is "totally preposterous." They also questioned why there's no physical evidence of attack plots.
This is the second trial for the group, who were arrested in June of 2006. The first trial ended in a hung jury for six of the defendants and the acquittal of a seventh man. That man has since been informed the U.S. government will deport him.
The defense closing arguments and a final prosecution rebuttal are set for Friday morning with jurors expected to get the case in the afternoon.
