Security Guard Kills Former Employer, Police Say

Victim's Daughter Tells CBS4 Her Father Was "An Incredible Friend To Many People."

LIBERTY CITY (CBS4) ― Miami-Dade Police say a security guard who had been fired and who was angry that his air conditioning had been disconnected is now charged with killing his boss and shooting another woman who was nearby.

Police say 66-year-old Simon Silva lived on the property he was guarding at 845 N.W. 71st St. The business was owned by the victim, who CBS4 has learned is 69-year-old Samuel Forman of North Bay Village. Police say that earlier this week, Forman fired Silva and Silva had been making plans to move out.

They say the men got into a "heated argument" on Thursday after Forman disconnected the air conditioning to the small apartment where Silva lived. They say Silva pulled out a gun and shot Forman and another woman who was on the property but who was not part of the dispute. Forman was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries. Debra Doud, 38, was also transported to JMH, where her condition is stable.

Silva is charged with second degree murder with a firearm and attempted murder with a firearm.

With tears in her eyes at her home, Forman's widow Ronnie told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that her husband was a good man. They were approaching their 48th wedding anniversary.

"This month," she said, was when they were going to celebrate it.

Forman's daughter, Beth, told me, "He was an incredible friend to many people. He was always there to help people. This was a tragedy."

In his neighborhood, residents told me they were stunned by the news. "He was a very nice guy," said Andrea Osona of Forman. "He was so nice and friendly. I feel bad and I am in shock right now."

Another neighbor, Mark Conte, told me, "He was a good guy. This was stupid what happened."

Silva had another address in Little Havana, where he picked up his mail, according to his friend, Edgardo Mastrodominico. He spoke in Spanish to and said that Silva was from Colombia and had lived here for about 20 years. "He is a nice guy."

When CBS4's Peter D'Oench told him that Silva had been charged with second degree murder, Mastrodominico immediately crossed himself as he would in church, shook his head, and said, "I can't believe it. He's a good person. He's never been violent."
