Jordan Wears Nikes At UCF; Adidas Cancels Contract
ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS4) ―
Marcus Jordan, son of basketball legend Michael Jordan, decided he wanted to wear his father's Nike Air Jordans when he was playing for the University of Central Florida. The only problem was that UCF had an exclusive deal with Adidas, which mean Jordan couldn't wear his Nikes. He did, and now Adidas has severed their ties with UCF, costing the school $3 million.
According to an email sent to the Orlando Sentinel, Adidas said, "The University of Central Florida has chosen not to deliver on their contractual commitment to Adidas. As a result we have chosen not to continue our relationship with them moving forward."
UCF had previously reached an agreement to allow Jordan to wear Nike shoes, despite the Adidas contract. Corporate officials later objected to Jordan wearing the Nikes. UCF still stands by Jordan despite the fiscal loss of Adidas' contract.
