Marlins team president told a crowd of fans on Saturday that he expects to be talking about construction of a new ballpark by next year's FanFest.
Fans have long heard talk from team officials about the prospect of a new ballpark.
Marlins president, David Samson, said the team is negotiating hard with the Florida Legislature to help build the stadium.
The project was approved to help build the stadium. The project was approved by Miami-Dade County commissioners in December. It calls for a for a 37,000-seat retractable-roof ballpark, and also includes a performing arts center, port tunnel project and a soccer stadium.
About 17,000 people attended the FanFest. They asked Samson and other team officials and players about issues ranging from parking to the Marlins' Sunday concert series.
