Sentencing For Mayor's Jewelry Guard Slayers

The Prosecutors Nicknamed The Men The "Rolex Robbers"

MIAMI (CBS4) ― Security guard Luis Brito was killed by a shot to the heart in 2003, when he tried to protect a Coral Gables jewelry store from masked robbers.  In May, a Miami-Dade jury found two men guilty, and on Thursday, a sentencing hearing began.

The daughter of the slain security guard took the stand.  Laura Brito was 18 when her father was killed and as she spoke, she apologized for crying, "I'm sorry. My mother and I try not to cry."   Laura's mother has since died.

CBS4 Peter D'Oench recalled how five years ago, four armed robbers entered a Mayor's jewelry store in Merrick Park, and surveillance video caught one of them shooting to death the guard.

The prosecutors nicknamed the men the "Rolex Robbers," claiming they planned to rob the store of tens of thousands of dollars of watches.

A total of four men were arrested in connection with the homicide-robbery; two men, Andre Williams and Shird Myrick, were outside the store, according to the prosecution, and convicted earlier this year.    Ehren Witt and Milton Hall, the two masked gunmen who were inside the store and allegedly killed Brito, were convicted of murder.

The men will face either life in prison or the death penalty.
