House Wants Mandated Mental Health Coverage
Bill would mandate treatment for several disorders.
TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) ―
House members in Tallahassee have passed a bill that would require health insurance policies to cover treatment for certain mental illnesses.
The bill will require all health insurance policies sold in Florida to cover treatment for schizophrenia, schizo-affective disorders, bipolar disorder, panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders and major depression.
The move comes while the Legislature continues to battle with mandating coverage, while at the same time making health insurance more affordable. Insurers say health insurance policies cost so much in Florida because of mandated coverage of certain treatments.
The mental health bill now heads to the Senate for approval before heading to Governor Crist's office.
