World's Oldest Orangutan Dies At Metrozoo

MIAMI (CBS4) ― A Sumatran orangutan, believed to be the world's oldest, has died at Miami's Metrozoo.

Zoo spokesman Ron Magill said Nonja, who was born on the Indonesian island of Sumatra and believed to be 55-years old, has lived in Miami since 1983. She was found dead Saturday morning.

Magill said despite her age, Nonja held her own very well,
sometimes against orangutans twice her size. He described her as a grand old dame.

A necropsy is to be performed in the next few days.
