Millions Raised For Miami Children's Hospital
MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Saturday night's event at the American Airlines Arena raised thousands of dollars for the Miami Children's Hospital's Foundation.
The money will go to help and comfort South Florida children suffering from a variety of illnesses.
"I can't really put it into words. But I am so very, very appreciative for everything they have done for him." Miami Children's Hospital has a special place is Dishonte Munning's heart. The doctors, nurses and volunteers comfort her 8-year-old son Adrian when he undergoes dialysis three times a week for kidney failure.
"It makes his time at the hospital not so miserable," Munnings explained, "and it makes him feel better although he is going through a very hard time in his life."
The sponsors and donors sat at lavishly decorated tables at the Hospital's Diamond Ball at the American Airlines Arena. They helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Hospital's foundation.
CBS4 Anchor Antonio Mora emceed a silent auction, while 7-year-old Ethan Bortnick played the piano and entertained.
In the end, the heart-warming crowd reminded one family of the compassion and care at Miami Children's Hospital. "They have such a love for children. I know without the donations that they provide for, and I know without the donations that the people are giving tonight, it wouldn't be possible," Gail Favors said.
Official numbers on how much money was raised are not available yet. Shortly after the auction, a concert featuring Motown living legend Smokey Robinson and Gloria Gaynor began.
