Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown will miss the rest of the 2009 season after the team placed him on injured reserve for the foot injury he suffered during the Fins game against the Buccaneers. Brown was ruled out of Thursday's game earlier in the week, but is now lost for the season. That means the Dolphins now turn to Ricky Williams to carry the load.
Brown had been the key cog in running the vaunted Wildcat offense for the Dolphins. He was also enjoying one of his best seasons ever as a running back. Brown is just 2 years removed from suffering an ACL tear which cut short his 2007 season as well. Perhaps more importantly to Brown, he is scheduled to get a new contract after the season, but the value is yet to be determined, especially for a back who has struggled to stay healthy the last three seasons.
The Dolphins game against Carolina on Thursday was expected to see four of the NFL's best running backs against each other. However, Brown's injury and injuries to both Carolina running backs Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams may mean the only running back left will be the Dolphins' Ricky Williams.
Among the other Dolphins listed as being out for Thursday night's game: backup defensive tackle Paul Soliai, starting tight end Anthony Fasano, and special teams player Erik Walden. Fasano has been replaced by Joey Haynos, who at 6'8" tall is giving Henne a big target in the red zone.
On the other side of the ball, Carolina reported that starting running back DeAngelo Williams did not participate in practice on Thursday due to a knee injury and is officially listed as questionable, which means he has a 50/50 shot of playing on Thursday. Backup Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart was limited in practice all week, but did fully participate in practice on Thursday.
Carolina's defensive tackle Damione Lewis was listed as questionable and if he doesn't play, the Dolphins are going to run right at the middle of the Panthers depleted defensive line. Carolina and Miami play on the NFL Network on Thursday night.
