CBS4 EcoZone: Green Visions

Luca Artioli's Photography Website

Green My School Contest

Michele Gillen
MIAMI (CBS4) ― Through his lens, he's captured the extraordinary faces of Mother Earth, trekking across the deserts of the world.

"It's a universe of shapes, of mystery, of energy, of life. You can see diamonds everywhere," photographer Luca Artioli told CBS4 Chief Investigative Reporter Michele Gillen.

From Milan to Miami, he's one of the world's most celebrated photographers and Mother Nature is his muse.

"It gives you a magical atmosphere. It's like to be in a dream," said Artioli.

It's a dream that emerged from a nightmare. Incredibly, just ten years ago, Luca Artioli didn't even own a camera. A successful banking manager in Italy, he suffered tragic family losses.

"My sister died, my father got paralyzed, so many things. I was exhausted," he said.

So weighed down with pain, he always looked to the ground, and there he found magic in the leaves and snow. Through nature and his camera, he found life again.

"You can really enjoy the beauty and the creativity of the nature."

Artioli always shoots alone and never retouches a photograph. He reveres his subjects and treats them with humility and patience. He's nearly lost his life capturing his "Green" visions, falling into a river and barely surviving an avalanche.

Artioli plans on donating several of his works to the winning school of EcoZone CBS4's Green Our School contest.
