Fire Destroys Miami Bayfront Guest House

Homeowner Claimed The House May Have Had Ties To Gangster Al Capone

MIAMI (CBS4) ― A once-beautiful bayside guest house in Miami has been reduced to a pile of charred rubble after an overnight fire destroyed the room and a two story garage.

Firefighters were called to the home in the 11-hundred block of Northeast 84rd Street just before midnight on Wednesday. Since the home sits on an inlet on the bay, firefighters were only able to attack the flames from the front.

The intense heat and flames eventually caused the structure to collapse which created pockets of smoldering flames.

No one was injured in the fire and the main house was not damaged. Its owner, Douglas Hillock, said he believed the home may have had ties to gangster Al Capone, though, the information has not been corroborated.

Fire officials are investigating the cause.
