MIAMI (CBS4) ―
Students at a South Florida elementary school are getting a new learning facility courtesy of the Miami Heat and Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
The grand opening of the brand new Miami Heat Learn & Play Center was held at Riverside Elementary School in Miami Monday afternoon.
Heat stars Jason Kapono and Wayne Simien mingled with students at the unveiling, as well as the Heat Dancers and Burnie the mascot.
Together with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, the Miami HEAT completely renovated an existing classroom at the Little Havana elementary school with new computers, furniture, television, desks, and books.
To make sure the Learn & Play Center will always be a "Heat" home away from home for students, the room was repainted with a specially designed HEAT mural, making it the perfect place for studying, homework, or extracurricular reading.
The first HEAT Learn & Play Center was unveiled in January at the Community Partnership for Homeless' downtown Miami center.
