Winners Announced At 19th Annual Herald Hunt

The 19th Annual Herald Hunt Kicks Off At Noon

MIAMI (CBS4) ― A family of four won the 19th annual Miami Herald Hunt Sunday afternoon and they took home a 7-night Caribbean cruise for four on Costa Cruise Lines.

The winning family included Dan Streit, Tom Streit, Andy Streit and Chris Streit. Some came from Port St. Lucie and Jupiter to take part in the event, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.

The event, organized and hosted by Pulitzer Prize winning humorist Dave Barry and Tom Shroder, former executive editor of The Miami Herald's Sunday magazine, Tropic, kicked off at noon at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.  CBS4 is a proud sponsor of Herald Hunt.

This year's hunt had a holiday theme as participants pieced together a series of bizarre clues to solve a mind bending puzzle.

"The Herald Hunt is unique," said Elaine Pasekoff, Hunt Mistress extraordinaire and Miami Herald Marketing Manager in a statement. "It's weird, wacky, frustrating, non-stop fun. Now in its 19th year, The Hunt has achieved cult status."

More than five thousand people were expected to take part in this year's Hunt.

Last year a team of five Sunset High School alumni, including some who flew into town just to take part, won the Hunt. The winners include Miami attorney Antonio Ginatta, Phoenix restaurateur Frank Estadts, Miami high school teacher Greg Nguyen, New York attorney Beesham A. Seecharan and Miamian David Jones, who quit the hunt about an hour before his teammates discovered the answer.

The five took home the grand prize, a trip to Amelia Island Plantation, by giving a name, telephone number and map coordinates to a person in a pink flamingo t-shirt on the corner of Northeast Second Avenue and Fifth Street.
