Winners Announced In 18th Herald Hunt

MIAMI (CBS4) ― The 18th Herald Hunt, described as an urban scavenger hunt wrapped in a mystery and designed as a contest, took place in downtown Miami Sunday, forcing people to use their brains and wits to win great prizes.

Around 6,000 people competed to be named the winner. Some worked alone, others were in groups. This year's champions were a team of five Miami Central High School alumni. Some of the winners flew into town just for the hunt. The winners include Miami attorney Antonio Ginatta, Phoenix restaurateur Frank Estadts, Miami high school teacher Greg Nguyen, New York attorney Beesham A. Seecharan and Miamian David Jones, who quite the hunt about an hour before his teammates discovered the answer.

The five took home the grand prize, a trip to Amelia Island Plantation, by giving a name, telephone number and map coordinates to a person in a pink flamingo t-shirt on the corner of Northeast Second Avenue and Fifth Street.

Clues for this year's hunt were planted on the stops of the AmericanAirlines Arena, at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, and at Bicentennial Park.

Herald Humor columnist Dave Barry (who worked on the puzzle with former Tropic magazine editor Tom Shroder) says this was likely the second-most difficult puzzle attempted. He blames former Tropic Editor Gene Weingarten for the Most Difficult Hunt Ever, in the 1980s.
