Hurricanes Women Advance To Round Of 16

All-American Vallverdu Punctuates Match

CORAL GABLES (CBS4) ―

The 12th ranked University of Miami women's tennis team is heading to Tulsa, OK for the round of 16, which will take place May 15-20.  On Saturday, the Hurricanes defeated 22nd ranked Notre Dame, 4-0, in second round action in to move to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship. 

The canes beat Quinnipiac 4-0 the day before in first round action of the Coral Gables Regional.   Miami (17-5) have now won nine of their last 10 matches propelling them to their 4th trip to the round of 16 for the third straight season and fourth in the last five.

Sophomore All-American Laura Vallverdu, the 19th ranked woman's player, beat 56th ranked Kelcy Tefft 6-2, 6-3 to give the canes the match.  Vallverdu has now won 16 of her last 18 singles matches.   

The Hurricanes will play the winner of the Waco Regional Final between No. 5 Baylor and No. 40 Tulsa.
