South Florida gamers be prepared for a weekend of fun, games and tournaments. Infinite Bits, Miami's first consumer-oriented video game convention, is just a few months away. Want a chance to meet a world record-holder? This convention is your chance!
Jason Cutler, President of Infinite Bits LLC, explained, "Our goal is to bring together all people who love video games, whether it's hardcore gamers, casual players, retro gamers and collectors, tournament junkies, or people looking to become part of the industry."
The convention will be held October 23-25 at the Doubletree Miami Mart Hotel and Convention Center. The convention will open at noon on Friday, going through 10 p.m. The rest of the weekend's hours are 10am-10pm Saturday, and 10am-5pm Sunday.
The members of Infinite Bits LLC decided to hold the convention because of the lack of any medium or large-scale gaming events in South Florida, especially given the abundance of gamers!
"There's a lot to do at Infinite Bits," Jason said. "People will find over 130 games to play, including an interactive video game museum, arcade machines, and separate areas for fighting, [first-person shooters], and party/casual games. We'll also have over a dozen tournaments, world record competitions officiated by Twin Galaxies (who provide all the high scores for the Guinness Book of World Records), a Nintendo World Championship 1990 competition, an Unreal Tournament 3 level design contest sponsored by IGDA South Florida, guest speakers from the industry, games and merchandise for sale, and live music Friday and Saturday nights."
On top of all that, the crew putting on the convention is currently working on bringing PC gaming to the convention.
Pre-registration is available for the event at the Infinite Bits website. It costs $30 for a three-day pass.
Attendees can also pay at the door. It will cost $35 for a three-day pass, $30 to attend Saturday and Sunday, or $20 for a one-day pass.
Con-goers who wish to haunt the convention throughout the entire weekend can get discounts at the Doubletree Miami Mart Hotel.

Jason, himself, is excited for the convention. "I'm most looking forward to the interactive video game museum. With 50 different gaming systems available for play, it gives attendees an opportunity to look at how far games have come, both stylistically and technologically, in only a few decades. It also gives them the chance to relive games from their past, and discover ones they didn't know existed."
And the member of Infinite Bits LLC have just confirmed some new guests for the convention:
- Billy Mitchell, world record holder for Pac Man and Donkey Kong, and profiled in the documentaries The King of Kong and Chasing Ghosts
- Ben Heckendorn, king of console modification, creating such masterpieces as the VCSp, a portable Atari 2600 and the Xbox 360 laptop.
- Todd Rogers, also know as Mr. Activision and the King of Video Games, He has the distinction of being the first paid pro gamer and holds world records in hundreds of games. Over the years he's been employed by Nintendo, Sega, and more than 40 other companies to promote their games.
