Several hundred South Florida mothers packed the ballroom at Jungle Island to learn about running a stay-at-home business on Monday. The event, put together by
MomsMiami.com, focused on helping parents juggle children and their business.
Editor Charlene Pacenti explained, "Everybody is looking for a way to make extra money. There are so many moms who want to grow a business, but also want to stay at home and be there for their kids."
Some women who had already launched their own businesses were there showing off their products. They all hope to be the next Misha's Cupcakes.
Misha Kuryla Gomez began baking and selling cupcakes out of her home four years ago. Now she has a store in Coral Gables, and a booming business that sells 80-thousand cupcakes a month.
She gave the crowd a reality check. "It's not easy. There were many days I was exhausted after having worked 16 hours."
Nonetheless, she said it was worth it because she got a huge feeling of satisfaction. "Now my daughter wants to be a baker; how adorable is that?"
