Miami Springs Middle Makes "Healthiest" List
(CBS4)
Congratulations to Miami Springs Middle School, which has been named one of the healthiest schools in America by Health magazine.
Coming in at number 6 nationwide, Miami Springs Middle was recognized for eliminating all white-flour products, fried food, sugary cereals and dessert from its cafeteria. It also received notice for putting health education into the science curriculum.
According to Health magazine's website, Health.com, the average American kid spends nearly 12-thousand hours in school from kindergarten through 12th grade; in that time they develop healthy or unhealthy eating habits.
With the rise in childhood obesity, as children become less active as they grow older, schools are recognizing the benefits of instilling healthy habits early on.
