Group Of Migrants Reach Soldier Key

FAST FACTS: Wet Foot-Dry Foot Policy

SOLDIER KEY (CBS4) ― 20 Cuban migrants have made it to shore in South Florida. According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials, the group landed on Soldier Key Monday morning.

Video from Chopper 4 shows the migrants on a jetty, waiting for officials to pick them up. All of them appeared dry and in good health.

There was at least one child with the group on Soldier Key which is located in Biscayne National Park between the Ragged Keys and Cape Florida.

A Miami-Dade Fire Rescue boat was sent out to pick up the group.

Under the U.S. "wet-foot/dry-foot" policy, most Cubans who reach U.S. soil are allowed to stay and seek American residency, while those intercepted at sea are generally sent home.
