Monroe County Officials Monitor Gustav Track
KEY WEST (CBS4) ―
The National Hurricane Center on Saturday issued a tropical storm warning for the lower Florida Keys west of the Seven-Mile bridge to Key West. Monroe County Sheriff's deputy and county spokeswoman Becky Herrin told CBS4 Reporter Peter D'Oench that officials have not called for a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of tourists or residents.
County officials remain optimistic that Gustav will not disrupt the Keys as did Tropical Storm Fay last week.
She added, "Everything we hear is that we're going to get some squally weather and wind gusts and rain."
Herrin believes the full impact from Gustav should be felt around 11pm, and the county will discuss opening a shelter for people with special needs.
The airport should operate on a normal schedule.
