1 Dead, Three Hurt When Truck Thieves Cause Wreck

A 51-Year-Old Woman Died On The Scene, Police Said.

MIAMI (CBS4) ―

A woman is dead and three others injured after police said a drivers of a stolen truck caused a multi-car wreck in Miami Sunday afternoon.

Police said the tragedy started when two men stole a Gold Coast Crane Service truck and were speeding northbound on Northwest 12th Avenue before they crashed into three cars that were heading southbound.

Investigators said the crash happened when the men first hit a blue Kia vehicle and then struck a red Dodge. The impact killed the driver of the red car; a 51-year-old woman.

Then the men caused another crash with a grey Chevrolet Monte-Carlo and later on slammed into a Honda Civic, said police.

Witnesses told CBS4's Shomari Stone the men quickly jumped out of their car and ran away from the scene.

The woman, who died on the scene, has not been identified, and her body has been transferred to the Medical Examiner's Office.

Three others victims were transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical but stable condition.

"This is a horrendous accident it so happens to be a Mother's Day tragedy, "said Miami Police Detective Willie Moreno."What we have right now is two individuals that were driving this stolen commercial vehicle. The two individuals are being described as two black males, in their 20s, 6 foot, and 160 to 170 pounds."

Both suspects are still on the run.

Police said one the man had a goatee, a short afro, and was wearing a white shirt. He was also seen walking with a limp.

The other man was wearing a gray tank top and investigators said he had a red tattoo.
