Teen Charged As Adult In Girl's Murder

Jason Hartley Charged With Second Degree Murder

FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ― A Ft. Lauderdale teen accused of killing a 14-year old girl and then dumping her body by a trash dumpster has been charged with second degree murder and will be tried as an adult.

Jason Hartley, 15, reportedly confessed to strangling Neica Gibbs.  He  allegedly told police after the two engaged in a sexual act in his mother's mobile home, they got into a violent argument; it was during this fight that Gibbs was killed.

Hartley then wrapped the girl's body in a tarp and placed it by a dumpster. It was discovered a month later.

Prosecutors opted not to charge Hartley first-degree murder because they felt that Gibbs murder may have been an act of passion

Wednesday, Hartley will be moved to the main jail from juvenile lock-up.
