A Ft. Lauderdale teen accused of killing a 14-year old girl and then dumping her body behind a trash dumpster, was ordered to be held without bond, during an appearance in adult bond court Wednesday morning.
On Tuesday, prosecutors revealed 15-year old Jason Hartley will be tried as an adult on second degree murder charges.
The body of 14-year old Neica Gibbs was discovered last month, about three weeks after she disappeared. It was a behind a garbage bin just yards from Hartley's home.
Hartley reportedly confessed to strangling Gibbs. He allegedly told police after the two engaged in a sexual act in his mother's mobile home, they got into a violent argument; it was during this fight that Gibbs was killed. Hartley said he wrapped the girl's body in a tarp and placed it by the dumpster.
Prosecutors opted not to charge Hartley with first-degree murder because they felt that Gibbs murder may have been an act of passion.
Hartley could face life in prison if convicted.
