Neighbors 4 Neighbors Kicks Off Food Drive
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ―
CBS4 and partners
Neighbors 4 Neighbors have kicked off their annual
Food 4 South Florida drive.
Last year more than six tons of food was donated during the month long drive. The donated goods help families across South Florida get the food they need to feed their families and this year it's even more important for donations to keep coming.
Wednesday, Betty Anglin was stocking up at a local food bank so she could feed her two granddaughters Nikora, 7, and Natasha, 5, who are now living with her. Anglin is raising her grandchildren because their mother died from a heart condition.
"It's very tough because right now our funds are very limited," Anglin told
CBS4's Jorge Estevez at the Pantry of Broward where she shopped for her ration of food. "This comes as an extended hand, a blessing that we did not expect."
The Pantry of Broward stepped into help Anglin. The also help seniors who qualify for food and other services.
"We all think we are in the worst of situations, but if you look around, there are always people who need a helping hand," said Bruce Harris, Director of Development for the Pantry of Broward.
The Neighbors 4 Neighbors Food for South Florida campaign is helping those who need a hand.
"People who have never ever have to look for food before are hungry," said Lynne Cameron Executive Director of Neighbors 4 Neighbors.
"My daughter's last wish was to take them to Disney World. Those things I have not been able to fulfill, but just to have this fulfilled it's a blessing," said Anglin.
If you would like to help you can drop off any food to a "Chick-fil-A" in South Florida. Cash donations can be made at
Neighbors4Neighbors.org.
