NRA Wants To Ban Gun Questions During Adoptions

MELBOURNE (CBS4) ― A central Florida state senator plans to introduce a bill in the legislature which would ban adoption agencies from asking parents if they have any guns in the home.

The National Rifle Association says the question is invasive and amounts to creating an illegal gun registry. State Sen. Thad Allen (R-Melbourne) said he got involved in the issue after two of his constituents complained when they tried to adopt a child.

The Department of Children & Families says some of the state's adoption forms ask about guns, but others don't.

NRA critics say the questions are valid. State Sen. Nan rich says parents often ask if their children's friends have guns in the home, and adoption agencies should have the same right.
