Gunfire Takes Down Pit Bull After Dog Attack

A pit bull sprinted into a neighbor's yard, attacking another dog

OAKLAND PARK (CBS4) ― A pit bull jumped from a neighbor's vehicle into a yard in Oakland Park on Friday, sprinting toward another dog when it was shot dead.

Anthony Dippolito, the owner of Crystal the boxer, will not face charges for shooting an aggressive animal, according to police.

He described the incident to CBS4 Reporter Ted Scouten, "He came in and grabbed my dog," demonstrating how the pit bull tried to drag the dog through an opening in his gate.

Surveillance cameras at the home then showed how Dippolito tried to pull the dog away, but to no avail.  He even smashed a satellite dish on the dog.

"I was on the inside beating him with the satellite dish," but the dog would not respond. "I hit it about 20 times," he added.

The shooting occurred at the 800 block of NE 39th St. in Broward County when Dippolito could not get the pit bull off his dog and ran in his home retrieving a gun.

Crystal suffered bites to her neck and will be recover.
The pit bull was taken to Academy Animal Hospital, where the dog's injuries were deemed life-threatening, according to a BSO report.
