For Liberty City grandmother Carolyn Adderley, the future seems brighter for her three year old granddaughter, one day after the nation's first black president was elected and hundreds took to the streets in celebration.
Adderley told
CBS4's Liv Davalos that the possibilities are endless.
"Now she has something to look forward to she don't have to doubt or worry if it will be possible," said Adderley, "She already knows that it's possible."
The t-shirts selling on the corner of M-L-K Boulevard say it all, "Mission Possible;" another one with Barack Obama's picture next to that of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
In Ft. Lauderdale at Lester's Diner, talk was all about the new president elect and just how he would deliver on his promise of change; especially with such difficult challenges such as the economic crises and healthcare issues.
Joel Smith says it will be a long road ahead.
"We need to be honest with ourselves but I think at least we have more hope than we did the last number of years," said Smith.
His friend Leo Ruccolo says he is confident a positive change is heading our way.
"Now we have some hope for change, I am proud to be an American this morning it says a lot about this country," said Ruccolo.
While most John McCain supporters tried to come to terms with defeat and move forward, Dr. Jeffrey Cohen says he is not happy with the outcome.
"He is not qualified to be president. It's not because he is a black man I just feel there are other qualified candidate"
But for those like Adderley, who voted for Obama, she feels he will come through with his promise of change and at the same time keep the dream alive.
