Palm Beach County Beaches Losing Ground

PALM BEACH COUNTY (CBS4) ― Tropical Storm Noel warnings for parts of South Florida put Palm Beach County environmental employees on alert.

Crews on Thursday assessed the shoreline erosion from rough surf and gusty winds.

In Martin County, there was one report of a garage floor of a home just north of Bathtub Reef Beach collapsing from loss of beachfront property.

The increased number of storms through the years have taken a toll on Palm Beach County. Some residents saw the stark reminder of the vulnerability of area beaches and the buildings that are built on them.

Residents of one condo complex along the beach, the Imperial, had to leave their units earlier in the week.  A sea wall protecting the complex collapsed, and about a dozen residents in the east building were urged to leave.

On Wednesday, crews brought in 6,000-pound concrete blocks to serve as a temporary barrier from the crashing waves.
