Lawsuit Lands Paris Hilton In Miami Courthouse

Trial Expected to Continue On Friday

Paris Had No Comment For TV Cameras

MIAMI (CBS4) ― A Miami firm is suing Paris Hilton alleging she didn't do enough to promote a movie titled "Pledge This!" Hilton made her appearance before a Miami federal judge as the lawsuit went to trial on Thursday.

She walked into Miami's federal courthouse wearing a black and white dress Thursday. She had been filming her reality show "My New BFF" in Dubai.

Hilton, 28, played the leading role in the 2006 film about an all-white, wealthy sorority that must recruit a more diversified population to be ranked the best in the nation. She was paid $1 million for her part.

But the firm suing Hilton isn't the company that hired her, Worldwide Entertainment Group. Instead, a group of defrauded investors filed the suit after the Securities and Exchange Commission alleged that Worldwide Entertainment was a multimillion-dollar fraud. A civil judgment was filed against the head of the alleged Ponzi scheme Jack Utsick. It allowed the 3,300 defrauded investors to go after as much money as possible to recoup their losses.

So now, the attorney representing the defrauded investors Michael Goldberg is behind the $8 million lawsuit against Hilton.

The movie was a flop and made $2.9 million. Goldberg claims that she turned down numerous radio and television interviews to promote the film.

But Hilton disputes the claim saying she promoted the film as often as she could and alleges she's out the $125,000 she was promised as a bonus.

''Any chance I got, any red carpet, any press, if I was doing something for another product, even if I wasn't asked about it, I would just bring it up,'' she said.

However, as she got out of jail Thursday evening, Paris was mum on the issue and so was her attorney, who told cameras it wasn't appropriate to comment while the trial was ongoing.

She is expected to testify before U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno in the three-day bench trial.
