Plane From Key West Crashes Outside Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) ― A twin-engine plane flying to Gainesville from Key West crashed short of the Gainesville Regional Airport Friday morning, killing three people aboard.

The victims' identities were not immediately released. The plane was a Partenavia P68C, registered to Robert A. Valle of St. Croix, British Virgin Islands. Valle told The Gainesville Sun the plane was carrying a personal friend of the pilot, who was scheduled to receive a kidney transplant.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, visibility was limited when the plane went down, shortly before 3:00a.m. near the runway the plane was headed toward. The planes wreckage was found just before 8:00 a.m. There were no reported injuries on the ground.

The crash is currently under investigation.
