A small plane crashed into the Florida Everglades Sunday night killing one person, according to Kathleen Bergen, spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration.
The AC-100 plane appears to have crashed into the Everglades between mile markers 40 and 41 off of Alligator Alley, Bergen said.
She added that the plane had taken off from Tamiami and was destined for Ocala.
"We believe the accident happened at 6:40 p.m.," she said.
Broward Sheriff's Office rescuers were on the scene trying to search for any other passengers. By Sunday night, they had suspended their search. They were expected to resume Monday morning.
"It seemed to have crashed into a swampy watery area with just the tail showing," said BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella.
No other passengers were onboard.
