Hialeah Arrest Man For Theft Of Police Car

HIALEAH (CBS4) ― Hialeah Police announced they have arrested and charged Luis Leonel Vilar for his role in the theft of an unmarked police car on Friday. The car belonged to an undercover officer and was stolen from the parking lot of a Flanigan's restaurant on West 84th Street.

The unmarked Ford Taurus was filled with police equipment, guns, ammunition, and even bullet proof vests was taken while the officer was assigned to an off-duty security job at the restaurant. It was stolen while he was working inside the bar. Police across South Florida had been put on alert as they tried to find the car and the guns.

Police say they recovered the car at an apartment building about a mile away from where it was stolen. Hialeah Police did say that most of the items were still inside the vehicle and the risk to the public has been completely eliminated.
