Going "Green" To Protect Your Home
Keep Shrubs And Bushes Trimmed Helps Elimate Hiding Spots
BOCA RATON (CBS4) ―
Residents of Boca Raton are being urged to go "green" in protecting their home.
Police have been surveying homes in the city to help residents determine the best way to maximize security and minimize the risk of a break in. In addition to replacing worn out doors, locks or windows, police have also been urging homeowners to use 'defensive shrubbery'.
Police say the principles of "crime prevention through environmental design" are simple.
The object is to increase visibility throughout surrounding yards, while eliminating access to the property and hiding spots. They suggest along with good outdoor lighting, landscaping and plants should be kept short enough to see over and trees tall enough to deter whether someone is hiding within its branches.
