Robbery Attempt Ends In Murder In Pompano Beach
Shooting May Have Been The Result Of A Robbery Attempt
POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) ―
Detectives and deputies with the Broward Sheriff's Office plan to canvass a Pompano Beach neighborhood Thursday night in their efforts to track down a killer.
Raul Chavez, 46, died Wednesday at North Broward Medical Center from gunshot wounds he received over the weekend. Chavez and Bardomiano Cruz, 38, were sitting in Chavez's van in the parking lot of an apartment building in the 34 hundred block of Northwest 3rd Avenue Sunday around 6:30 p.m. when two men shot at them.
Witnesses told BSO investigators the two armed men spoke to Chavez and Cruz in English, but the Spanish-speaking men could not understand them. That's when one of the suspects started shooting into the van.
Both men were rushed to North Broward General Medical Center; Cruz was treated and released.
BSO detectives believe the shooting may have been the result of an attempted armed robbery; however, the case remains under investigation.
Anyone with information on this case or the identities of the suspects is asked to contact BSO Homicide Det. Efrain Torres at (954) 321-4210 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at (954) 493-TIPS.
