Cunard Cruise Liners Make Royal Rendezvous
The Queen Victoria & The Queen Mary II Will Depart On World Tours
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ―
It will be a royal affair at Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale Tuesday afternoon as a pair of 'Queens' make a royal rendezvous.
Cunard's Queen Victoria sailed into the port early Tuesday morning; this is the only time this ship will visit Ft. Lauderdale this year.
Tuesday afternoon, the Queen Victoria and the company's flagship, Queen Mary II, will both set sail on around the world cruises.
The Queen Victoria embarked on her 99-day voyage around the world on January 10 from New York, while the Queen Mary II's World Cruise will set sail Tuesday to begin her 90-day circumnavigation of the globe.
Built in the Marghere Shipyard near Venice, Italy, the Queen Victoria is 964.5 feet in length, has 990 state rooms and carry accommodate up to two thousand passengers.
In her first year at sea, Queen Victoria sailed 111,828 miles, made 222 port calls and carried 54,827 guests. The celebrated liner is scheduled to make the following maiden calls during her World Cruise: Apia, Western Samoa; Aqaba, Jordan; Cabo San Lucas, Mexico; Cairns, Australia; Christchurch (Lyttelton), New Zealand; Nagasaki, Japan; Nha Trang, Vietnam; Phuket, Thailand; Pusan, South Korea; Rabaul, Papua New Guinea; and Willemstad, Curaçao.
During Queen Mary II's five years in service, the grandest ocean liner at sea has sailed almost 750,000 nautical miles, completed 104 Atlantic crossings, and made calls to 115 ports in 45 countries. Maiden calls on her current World Cruise will include Lima, Peru; Yokohama, Japan; Bangkok, Thailand; and Salalah, Oman.
