Driving Spree Seperates Dad, Kids At Christmas

PALM BAY (CBS4) ― Two children in Palm Bay will not be spending Christmas with their father, after police took them into custody and arrested their dad, saying he may have been celebrating the holiday by shooting up drugs, while driving, with them in the car on Christmas eve.

Police say several people called about 3 p.m. Monday to report a man driving recklessly in a black Infiniti with a missing
front tire.

When police found the car and stopped it, they found 34-year-old Jon M. Meister at the wheel. A spokeswoman for the Palm Bay police department said officers found uncapped drug needles on the front seat and Meister's two children, ages 2 and 7,  in the back seat. It was not clear if the needles had just been used.

The two children were not hurt and picked up by their mother.

Their father was arrested on various charges, including fleeing and attempting to elude police, reckless driving and child abuse.

He is scheduled to go before a judge Christmas day.
