Bill To Fine Red Light Runners Gets Green Light
Red light runners had better be prepared to pay up as state legislators take steps to crackdown on drivers who run red lights.
A bill that would set requirements for the use of automatic cameras to fine owners of vehicles that run red lights has gotten a green light in the Florida House.
The measure cleared the chamber Monday.
It would set civil fines at $150. The owner would be fined regardless of who was driving, just like a parking ticket.
Owners could appeal. They would not, though, get points against their driver licenses, and insurance companies couldn't use the violations to raise premiums or cancel coverage.
The bill passed 101-7 and goes to the Senate, where a similar measure is awaiting a vote.
